This wine is a special project of second generation at Gibson, Adam, whose nickname is “Duke.” Adam claims the reference comes from playing local football, where a fiery competitiveness often saw him being “dukes up” on the field. The inconvenient truth behind it however is the mispronunciation of his own middle name - Luke - as a toddler.
The 2021 Duke Grenache is made from both Barossa & Eden Valley fruit, and has a bright ruby red color with a pale ruby hue. Fragrant aromas of rosehip, raspberry, red and black cherries and dried flowers are present on the nose. The palate shows plenty of red berried fruit, with flavours of cherrystone, satsuma plum, cranberry and amaro herbs paving way for soft, gentle tannins providing a long and structured finish.
Our Gibson Duke Grenache is a contrast to the boisterousness you may expect in a wine named after Adam. Perhaps this wine offers a window to a softer, more considered and deeper side of the Duke himself. But we all know that he’ll never admit to that.
Enjoy a glass of Duke Grenache with grilled veggies or an Asian stir-fry.
