Penderyn ex-Australian Red Wine Cask (Cask “AW1”) is a unique whisky released exclusively for the Australian market. Only 203 bottles were made available.

Barrels were procured from the renowned “Calliope Vineyard” and Buller Wines in the Rutherglen Valley. The cask contained one of the rarest and oldest whiskies ever released by Penderyn.

Matured in ex-bourbon casks from June 2004 until 2009. The whisky has since been matured in this exceptionally rare wine cask.

Penderyn’s master blender describes the whisky: “It’s a lovely whisky. Full bodied, got a lot of influence from the wine cask – fruity and spicy”

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Raspberrries, redcurrants, cherries, strawberries with a hint of walnut and a warm vanilla spice.
Palate: Smooth with soft spices, red apples.
Finish: Almonds with roasted coffee bean.
